In 2007 we felt God leading us to embark on an initiative to plant a thriving church among the Yalunka People of West Africa. Less than 1% of Yalunka’s claim to follow Jesus, so we understand that this is a monumental task. But as seen in the above definition, an initiative requires action and energy! The last 5 years we have sent almost 20 people to West Africa on short-term trips. We have helped construct new missionaries homes, investigated the openness of new villages to the gospel, supplied wells with clean drinking water, had a prayer team wreak some serious spiritual havoc on the enemy, and invested thousands of dollars in both spiritual and social causes.

Most recently Pine Hills Church purchased hundreds of bibles in the Yalunkan dialect so that those who are literate may have the Word of God to read and study from. However, many Yalunkas are illiterate so to bring the Word of God to them in a creative way, we have purchased a number of Proclaimers. These are solar powered mp3 players that have various New Testament books recorded. 150 of these are on their way to Guinea and the goal is to establish 150 (or more) listening groups. The potential for impact with these groups is astounding.
